02:51Eli Beda at JLMBioCity June 2019The lecture about the business life cycle of the Cannabis was hosted by Eli Beda.
Currently, the cannabis market is experiencing a hyper growth as more and more countries are legalizing it. However, what is the future of the Cannabis market and how are we going to get there?
Previously, the biggest thing in cannabis that everyone was talking about was cultivation. All the investment money was going directly into growing the plant. As such, just like any other agricultural product, we experience a race to the bottom. Growers are competing to produce the lowest cost, best quality, and highest quantity product possible.
However, it is important to note that cannabis is just a part of a much bigger market place. In fact, there are many different fields within the cannabis value chain such as genetics, growing, processing, distribution, and dispensing. Therefore, the real future of cannabis is actually in specialization.
Currently, there are many brands of cannabis based products in the marketplace. However, we need to develop high quality products before creating a brand behind those high quality products.
As an investor in cannabis, you might not know where to invest in. There are a lot of different types of cannabis products including: edibles, smokeables, vapes, medicinal, and well as many others. In reality, there are many fields that you could invest in and be successful. However, it is best if you focus on what you are already good at. There is no need to reinvent the wheel!
Israel is one of the leading innovators in the cannabis marketplace. This is due to several reasons including unrivaled genetic intellectual property as well as it being the home to hundreds of cannabis related hi-tech startups.
In addition, Israel understands the medicinal properties of cannabis and wants to be at the forefront of researching and developing its uses. In fact, studies are currently being conducted on some of the conditions that cannabis could possible help including things such as cancer, PTDS, HIV/AIDs, and even Tourette’s Syndrome.
iCAN is a company whose goal is to build the global cannabis ecosystem. They do this by bringing together the scientists, bankers, investors, regulators, farmers, and all the top level people in cannabis. By developing high levels of worldwide collaboration in the cannabis business, they are able to push innovations in the industry.

02:12Personalizing Cannabinoid Treatment - Haleli SharirWhat is personalized cannabinoid treatment and how can we implement it effectively in cancer treatment?
Why is it important to focus on cannabis?
First, cannabis is a natural product. Second, when used with cancer patients, cannabis is able to relieve chronic pain and nausea. Lastly and most importantly, cannabis actually has the potential to kill tumor cells. In fact, when compared to other natural oils, it has the greatest and most positive effect at killing cancer cells while also not harming healthy cells.Cancer is the second biggest cause of death worldwide. However, the biggest challenge is that cancer is not actually just a single disease. Rather, it is actually thousands of different diseases. In addition, each person is genetically different, and each strain of cannabis is different as well. As such, there are innumerable different combinations that must be dealt with.
Previously, when looking at medicine, we made one medicine that was supposed to work for everyone. However, no two people are genetically identical, so we can’t expect a single medicine to work for everyone. This brings us to the use of personalized medicine.
What is the final goal? Currently, the research of personalized cannabinoid treatment has only been done in the lab. The next step is to use it in a real-world scenario. For example, there are cases where two different people claim to have the same cancerous tumor.
However, when using the same cannabinoid treatment on both patients, it is only effective on one of them. With new technological advancements, it is possible to take tumor samples from each patient and screen them. Through the thorough, data-driven screening, it is possible to see exactly which treatment is the most effective for each patient, or in other words, creating a personalized cannabinoid treatment plan for them.

02:46Breaking Ranks with Traditional Tobacco - Daniel Elfenhttp://summur.ai/lFYVYBreaking Ranks with Traditional Tobacco - Daniel ElfenWhat is the relationship between tobacco and cannabis? At the core of both of these industries is a plant and compounds that people are trying to get into their bodies.
As the tobacco industry grew, it faced many of the same problems that the cannabis industry is facing today including economies of scale, efficiency, brand differentiation and sustainability.
Previously, tobacco much like cannabis was used for both its medicinal and recreational properties. However, with research in the 50s, public opinion and health concerns forced the tobacco industry to reevaluate. Cannabis can easily go down this same road. Therefore, it is important to look and compare the similarities and differences between these two industries in order to learn what we can.
The big difference between these two industries is the speed at which they have developed. The tobacco industry took a few centuries to fully develop. However, the cannabis industry is developing up to 20 times faster! As such, it is important to set up the cannabis industry for success now as it is still in its nascence.
We can also look back at the problems the tobacco industry has faced, and learn from their mistakes in order to actively avoid them when developing the cannabis industry.
Traditionally, tobacco and cannabis products have been consumed in one way, combustion. This is where one of the main problems come from. It is the products of combustion, such as smoke, that causes the greatest health risks. Therefore, the cannabis industry is faced with eliminating this problem. However, we know how hard it is to get smokers to quit.
Currently, through the merger of technology, science, and innovation they are eliminating the smoke from smoking by developing smoke free products. However, having the right products is not enough. Smokers smoke for many different reasons such as nicotine, taste, ritual, sensory experiences, and social habits. Therefore, not only do we need to give them a new product that gives them these things, we also need to help coach the consumer along.
The cannabis industry is still in its beginning growing stages and going through many of the similar problems that the tobacco industry has and is facing. They need to learn from the tobacco industry in order to establish themselves on a sound and sustainable foundation in order to grow.
If you are interested in learning more about the tobacco industry and how it can help the growing cannabis industry, make sure to check out Daniel Elfen’s full talk.
